What is creatine?
Creatine Monohydrate is a pure form of Creatine, a substance which is produced naturally in the body and is also available from dietary sources such as red meat and salmon. It is also available in the form of a quality sports supplement, which offers a more concentrated benefit.
What does creatine do in the body?
Keeping creatine levels topped up in the body allows us to create more ATP – a substance that is used to make energy in our bodies. ATP is put to use when we are performing high-intensity training, like lifting heavy weights. It gets broken down quickly to allow for successive bursts if short-term, high intensity exercise. Our bodies do already make creatine but supplementing with additional creatine has been shown to increase levels in our muscles. The general recommendation is to replenish out body with 1-3g of creatine per day to support normal creatine stores.
How much creatine should I take a day?
It is recommended that you initially ‘load’ creatine if it’s your first time taking it by consuming 4 servings of 5g a day for 5 days. Then, to maintain these elevated creatine levels, simply take 3-5g per day. Remember to up your water intake when taking creatine for best results during and after training.
